Americans Spend Only 5% Outdoors Daily
Fun fact; according to the article below, the average American spends 5% of their day outdoors. 5%! While this number seems low, kids in Finland have the right approach to the outdoors. And interestingly enough, time outdoors correlates with improved test scores. In fact, students in Finland have one of the highest test score rankings in the world! For every 45 minutes of class time, they have 15 minutes of recess. In a separate article, a superintendent in South Carolina is using this same model within his district. Perhaps sitting in a stagnant position and studying all day isn’t the best approach to learning.
If being outdoors “makes us more relaxed, more creative, and more socially connected”, it’s time to GET OUTSIDE!
